English translation
Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Indeed, Allah the Exalted grants respite to the wrongdoer (that is, He prolongs his life in this world so that he may fill up the measure of his wrongdoing and be seized in severe punishment in the Hereafter); but then, when He seizes him, He does not let him go (and the wrongdoer cannot escape Allah's grip and His punishment)." Then the Prophet ﷺ recited this verse (as evidence): "And such is the seizure of your Lord when He seizes the townships while they are doing wrong. Indeed, His seizure is painful and severe." (Bukhari and Muslim)
Injustice (zulm) is the opposite of justice ('adl). In the language, zulm means to place something out of its proper occasion and place, to make it transgress its limit, and for a thing to occur wrongly and untimely, with excess and harm.
Everything that, upon reaching its proper place and station, is correct, beneficial, and useful, becomes harmful when it is out of place. Just as justice, in the world, is the cause of the health, safety, establishment, and life of everything, injustice is the cause of corruption, ruin, and destruction. This is why, in Islam, the basis of all commands is justice and the basis of all prohibitions is injustice. As much as justice increases, injustice decreases in like measure; and by the increase of injustice, justice is diminished. For this reason, let alone committing injustice, even inclining and leaning towards injustice has been sternly forbidden in the Noble Qur'an and the Hadith — for if you lean towards injustice, the flames of the Fire of Hell will seize you. Allah the Exalted says:
"And do not incline towards those who do wrong, lest the Fire (of Hell) touch you, and you would have no protectors besides Allah, nor would you then be helped." (Hud 113)
Here Allah the Exalted has declared even desire for, inclination towards, and leaning towards injustice to be absolutely forbidden — that is, openly and fully siding with injustice is one thing, but even mere desire for and leaning towards the wrongdoers is enough for punishment. That is, do not, out of softness and flattery towards the wrongdoers, seek their help, for this gives the impression that you also approve of their other affairs; in this way it becomes a great crime on your part that can make you too deserving of the punishment of Hell along with them. From this also follows the prohibition of association and connection with tyrant rulers.
In this noble hadith the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has explained that Allah the Exalted, according to His will and wisdom, grants respite to the wrongdoer and the sinner, but when He takes them to task there is no way to escape His grip. Therefore everyone should keep himself clear of injustice and sin, and likewise should not be deceived by the respite, for it is not known when the term of respite may end and the seizure begin. To explain this wisdom, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited verse 102 of Surah Hud — that is, just as Allah the Exalted destroyed and ruined the townships of the past, He is able to seize the wrongdoers in the same way in the future.
In this noble hadith the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has also consoled the oppressed: that they should adopt patience and steadfastness over the injustice and oppression done to them, and await the day when the firm hands of the law of destiny will be upon the neck of the wrongdoer and he will have to suffer the severe punishment for his injustice. At the same time, this noble hadith contains a stern warning and threat for the wrongdoers: that they should not be deluded by this respite granted by Allah the Exalted, but should be ready to face the severe punishment of Allah in the Hereafter and to suffer the penalty for the injustice they committed, as the blessed saying of Allah the Exalted is:
"And do not think Allah to be unaware of what the wrongdoers do; He only grants them respite until a Day on which the eyes will stare (in horror)." (Ibrahim 42)
That is, if in this world Allah the Exalted has granted a wrongdoer, or one who aids and abets a wrongdoer, a long respite and has not taken him to task by the time of his death, then on the Day of Resurrection he will not be able to escape Allah's reckoning — which will be so terrifying for the wrongdoers that their eyes will remain fixed and staring.
O Allah! Overlook our faults, and protect us all from committing injustice and from aiding the wrongdoers. Amin!
"In Allah alone have we put our trust. O our Lord! Do not make us a trial for these wrongdoing people." (Yunus 85)
