سچ بولنے اور جھوٹ سے بچنے کی تاکید

It is narrated from Abdullah ibn Masʿud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Adhere to truthfulness, for truthful speech (always and consistently) leads to virtue (goodness) — that is, the characteristic of speaking the truth is that one is enabled to do good — and virtue leads (the virtuous) to (the high ranks of) Paradise; and (bear in mind) whoever always speaks the truth and always strives to speak the truth is recorded with Allah as a 'ṣiddīq' (utterly truthful one). And keep yourselves away from lying, for lying leads to transgression and immorality (fisq and fujūr) — that is, the characteristic of lying is that it inclines one towards committing evils and misdeeds — and transgression and immorality push (the transgressor and sinner) into the Fire of Hell; and (bear in mind) whoever lies much and strives (ever more) to lie is recorded with Allah as a 'kadhdhāb' (that is, a great liar)." (Bukhari & Muslim)

If there is no truthfulness within a man, then no kind of trust can be placed in him; and once he is no longer trustworthy, what goodness or faithfulness can be expected of him? How could such a person deserve that Paradise of Allah which has been prepared for those who are righteous and faithful?

In another narration of Muslim it also comes: "Ṣidq (truthfulness, speaking the truth) is righteousness and faithfulness, and righteousness and faithfulness surely lead to Paradise; and lying is transgression and immorality, and transgression and immorality push one into the Fire of Hell."

The one who remains firm upon truthfulness and always speaks the truth attains, with Allah, the title of ṣiddīq. In the Holy Qur'an, after the prophets, Allah has mentioned the ṣiddīqīn thus:

"And whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger (ﷺ) — they will be with those upon whom Allah has bestowed favour: of the prophets, the ṣiddīqīn (the truthful), the martyrs and the righteous. And excellent are these as companions." (An-Nisa – 69)

From this it is understood that the ṣiddīq is raised to a very lofty station of character and conduct; nothing can prevent a person whose way is truthfulness and sincerity from reaching that station.

In the Holy Qur'an Allah says: "Righteousness and faithfulness is not that you turn your faces towards the east and the west; rather, true faithfulness is that of one who believes in Allah and the Last Day, and the angels, and the Book of Allah, and the prophets; and who, despite his love for wealth, gives it to relatives, orphans, the needy, the traveller, and to those who ask, and for freeing slaves; and who establishes prayer and gives zakat; and those who fulfil their pledge when they make one; and who are steadfast in poverty and bodily affliction and at the time of battle. It is these who have proved truthful, and it is these who are the people of piety." (Al-Baqarah – 177)

This verse makes clear that in the sight of Allah the truthful one is he who can prove truthful in every matter and on every occasion. Just as truthfulness is the fountainhead of good deeds and kindnesses, so likewise lying is the root and foundation of every kind of transgression and immorality. A person who has made lying his habit feels no hesitation in doing evil deeds, and in the end falls into Hell, and with Allah he is counted among the liars and the great fabricators. Such a person, in terms of his character and deeds, is a kadhdhāb (utter liar), and with Allah too he receives this very title.

May Allah grant us all the ability to speak the truth and to abstain from lying. Amin.
