خودکشی کرنا
حضرت جندب بن عبداللہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: ''تم سے پہلے لوگوں میں ایک شخص تھا، اسے زخم لاحق ہوا تو وہ گھبرا گیا، اس نے (تنگ آ کر) خودکشی کر لی، اللہ تعالیٰ نے ارشاد فرمایا میرے بندے نے اپنی جان کے خاتمے کے لیے مجھ سے آگے بڑھنے کی کوشش کی، لہٰذا میں نے اس پر جنت حرام کر دی۔'' (بخاری)
یہ حقیقت ہے کہ دنیا میں ہر طرح کی نعمت انسان کی خدمت اور فائدے کے لیے ہے، اللہ تعالیٰ کی مقرر کردہ حدود میں رہ کر ان سب سے فائدہ اٹھانا انسان کا حق ہے، لیکن کسی بھی چیز کے غلط استعمال کی اسے اجازت نہیں، کیونکہ انسان خود کا مالک نہیں بلکہ صرف اور صرف امین ہے، حتیٰ کہ وہ اپنی اس جان کا بھی مالک نہیں اس لیے غلط جگہ یا غلط طریقے سے بھی اپنی زندگی، وقت اور صلاحیت خرچ نہیں کر سکتا، اگر وہ اپنی یہ زندگی خود اپنے ہاتھوں ختم کرنا چاہے تو جان کے خالق و مالک نے اسے اس کی اجازت نہیں دی ہے۔ ارشادِ باری تعالیٰ ہے: ''اور اپنے آپ کو قتل نہ کرو، یقین مانو کہ اللہ تمہارے اوپر نہایت مہربان ہے۔'' (النساء ۔ ۲۹)
انسان سے سرزد ہونے والے جرائم میں سب سے سنگین اور گھناؤنا جرم خودکشی ہے اور یہ ایک ایسی حقیقت ہے جس سے کسی کو بھی اختلاف نہیں، حتیٰ کہ جانور بھی بہ زبانِ حال اس حقیقت کا اعتراف کرتے ہوئے نظر آتے ہیں کہ اپنی جان کی حفاظت اور اس کی بقا کی کوشش کرتے ہیں جو کہ فطرت کا بنیادی درس ہے، اسلام جو دینِ فطرت ہے اس نے اس کے ارد گرد وعید کے مضبوط حصار قائم کر دیے اور اس برائی کو جنم دینے والے عقائدِ باطلہ کی بیخ کنی کی، انسان کو ہر حال میں صبر و استقلال کا درس دیا اور اس حقیقت کو ذہن نشین کرا لیا کہ اس دنیا میں کسی شے کو ثبات نہیں ہر چیز تغیر کی زد میں ہے، یہاں کی صحت و تندرستی، عیش و آرام، دولت و ثروت، جاہ و جلال، اور یہاں کے مصائب و تکالیف، غربت و افلاس، یہ سب بدلتے رہتے ہیں اور ہر پریشانی کے ساتھ خوش حالی آتی ہے اور بالآخر اس زندگی کے بعد ایک ہمیشہ کی زندگی ہے وہاں ہر شے کو دوام و ثبات حاصل ہے۔ انسان زندگی کے مختلف مراحل سے گزرتا ہے اور کبھی اس کا سفینۂ حیات مصیبتوں و تکلیفوں کے بھنور میں پھنس جاتا ہے اور وہ سمجھ لیتا ہے کہ ان مصائب کے طوفان سے اب چھٹکارا ممکن نہیں اور ہمارا ازلی دشمن شیطان اس کو مایوسی کے دام میں گرفتار کرکے اس کے دل میں یہ بات ڈال دیتا ہے کہ خودکشی کے ساحل کے علاوہ اور کوئی ساحل نہیں اور یہی دوا ہر مرض کا علاج ہے جبکہ یہ نادان نہیں جانتا کہ نظر آنے والا کنارہ حقیقت میں مصائب و آلام کا انتہائی گہرا سمندر ہے۔ کسی شاعر نے کیا خوب کہا ہے:
اب تو گھبرا کے یہ کہتے ہیں کہ مر جائیں گے
مر کے بھی چین نہ پایا تو کدھر جائیں گے
اسی لیے اللہ تعالیٰ نے ایک جگہ اس طرح فرمایا: ''اپنے آپ کو ہلاکت میں نہ ڈالو'' (بقرہ ۱۹۵)
خودکشی کرنے والے کے ساتھ عام طور پر رحم دلی اور ترس کا معاملہ کیا جاتا ہے اور اکثر اوقات مخالف اور دشمن بھی اس موقعے پر ترس کھاتے ہیں، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی ذاتِ گرامی کس قدر رقیق اور سراپا رحمت تھی کہ ہمیشہ اپنے دشمن کے لیے بھی دعائے ہدایت کی اور جب تک اللہ تعالیٰ کی طرف سے واضح حکم نہیں آگیا کسی منافق کی نماز جنازہ پڑھانے سے بھی انکار نہیں فرمایا مگر رحمۃ للعالمین صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے خودکشی کرنے والے کی نماز جنازہ پڑھانے سے انکار کر دیا تھا۔ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا میں تو اس کی نماز جنازہ نہیں پڑھاؤں گا۔ (بحوالہ سنن النسائی)
ایک اور حدیث میں ہے کہ: ''جس کسی نے پہاڑ سے گر کر خودکشی کر لی وہ ہمیشہ ہمیشہ کے لیے جہنم کی آگ میں اسی طرح گرتا رہے گا، جس کسی نے زہر پی کر خودکشی کر لی، زہر اس کے ہاتھ میں ہوگا اور جہنم کی آگ میں وہ اسے ہمیشہ ہمیشہ پیتا رہے گا اور جس نے دھار والی چیز کو مار کر خودکشی کر لی تو وہ دھار دار آلہ اس کے ہاتھ میں ہوگا جس سے وہ جہنم کی آگ میں مسلسل اپنا پیٹ چاک کرتا رہے گا۔'' (بحوالہ بخاری)
اللہ تعالیٰ ہر مسلمان کو اس حرام موت سے محفوظ رکھے اور صراطِ مستقیم کی توفیق عنایت فرماتا رہے۔ آمین یا رب العالمین۔

English translation
It is narrated from Hazrat Jundub ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Among the people before you there was a man who received a wound; he became distressed and (out of desperation) killed himself. Allah the Almighty said: 'My servant hastened ahead of Me regarding his own life; therefore I have made Paradise forbidden to him.'" (Bukhari)
It is a fact that every kind of blessing in the world is for the service and benefit of man; it is man's right to benefit from them all while remaining within the limits fixed by Allah the Almighty, but he is not permitted to misuse anything, because man is not the owner of himself but only and solely a trustee — indeed, he is not even the owner of this life of his, and therefore he may not expend his life, time, and capacity in a wrong place or in a wrong manner. If he wishes to end this life of his with his own hands, the Creator and Owner of life has not given him permission for that. Allah the Almighty says: "And do not kill yourselves; be assured that Allah is most merciful toward you." (An-Nisa — 29)
Of the crimes committed by man, the gravest and most abhorrent is suicide, and this is a reality about which no one differs — indeed, even animals are seen, by the tongue of their state, to acknowledge this reality, in that they strive to protect their lives and preserve them, which is a basic lesson of nature. Islam, which is the religion of nature, has set up strong ramparts of warning around it and rooted out the false beliefs that give rise to this evil; it has taught man patience and steadfastness in every condition, and impressed upon him the reality that nothing in this world has permanence — everything is subject to change: the health and soundness here, the ease and comfort, wealth and riches, rank and majesty, and the afflictions and hardships here, poverty and destitution — all these keep changing; and with every distress comes prosperity, and finally, after this life, there is an everlasting life where everything has permanence and stability. Man passes through the various stages of life, and sometimes the ship of his life becomes caught in the whirlpool of afflictions and hardships, and he concludes that there is now no escape from this storm of adversities; and our eternal enemy, Satan, having ensnared him in the trap of despair, casts into his heart the notion that there is no shore other than the shore of suicide and that this alone is the cure for every ailment — while this foolish one does not know that the shore that appears is in reality an exceedingly deep ocean of afflictions and sorrows. How well a poet has said:
"Now, in panic, they say they will die;
But if even in death they find no peace, then where will they go?"
It is for this that Allah the Almighty said in one place: "Do not cast yourselves into destruction." (Al-Baqarah 195)
The one who commits suicide is generally treated with compassion and pity, and often even the opponent and the enemy take pity on such an occasion. How tender and how utterly full of mercy was the noble person of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, that he always prayed even for the guidance of his enemy, and, until a clear command came from Allah the Almighty, he did not even refuse to lead the funeral prayer over a hypocrite — yet the Mercy to the Worlds ﷺ refused to lead the funeral prayer over the one who had committed suicide. The Prophet ﷺ said, "I will not lead his funeral prayer." (Reported by Sunan an-Nasa'i)
In another hadith it is stated: "Whoever kills himself by throwing himself off a mountain will, for ever and ever, keep falling likewise in the Fire of Hell; whoever kills himself by drinking poison, the poison will be in his hand and in the Fire of Hell he will keep drinking it for ever and ever; and whoever kills himself by striking himself with a blade, that bladed instrument will be in his hand, with which he will keep cutting open his belly in the Fire of Hell for ever." (Reported by Bukhari)
May Allah the Almighty keep every Muslim safe from this forbidden death, and continue to grant the ability to stay on the straight path. Ameen, O Lord of the Worlds.
