حب مال و حب جاہ کی تباہ کاریاں
حضرت کعب بن مالک رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا کہ:۔ ''دو بھوکے بھیڑیے جو بکریوں میں چھوڑ دیے جائیں وہ ان بکریوں کو اس سے بڑھ کر تباہ نہیں کرتے جتنا مال اور عزت و جاہ کے لیے انسان کی حرص اس کے دین کو تباہ اور برباد کر کے رکھ دیتی ہے''۔ (ترمذی و دارمی)
دین کیا ہے؟ زندگی میں اللہ تعالیٰ کے احکامات کو اختیار کرنا، اس طور پر زندگی بسر کرنا کہ انسان کی پوری زندگی احکامِ خداوندی کی تابع بن کر رہ جائے، اس کے کردار و اعمال سے صاف ظاہر ہو کہ وہ اللہ تعالیٰ کی عزت و عظمت اور اس کے جمال و کمال پر قربان ہے، اس کی ساری وفاداریاں ایک اللہ کے لیے مخصوص ہو کر رہ گئی ہیں، ایسے شخص کی دلی تمنا یہ ہوتی ہے کہ وہ اللہ تعالیٰ کے سامنے اپنے آپ کو انتہا درجہ تک پست کر دے تا کہ اس کے مقابل اللہ کی برتری نمایاں ہو، وہ اس بات کا آرزومند ہوتا ہے کہ اللہ کی محبت میں وہ اس طرح سرشار ہو کہ یہ چیز اسے فانی اشیاء کی محبتوں سے بے نیاز کر دے، حقیقت یہ ہے کہ جس شخص کو صحیح معنوں میں اللہ کا علم ہوگیا، اس کی نگاہ میں اللہ تعالیٰ کے مقابل میں نہ کہیں اور کوئی عزت و عظمت ہے اور نہ اس کے مقابل میں کہیں کوئی وجہ دل کشی و جاذبیت پائی جاتی ہے، جس کے لیے اس کا دل بے تاب و مضطرب ہو سکے، یہی اصل دین ہے، اب اگر کوئی شخص دنیاوی مال و متاع اور دنیاوی عزت و مرتبہ اور شہرت کا بھوکا ہے تو ظاہر ہے کہ وہ دین اور اس کی لذتوں سے بالکل نا آشنا ہے، وہ اگر اپنی اصلاح کی طرف متوجہ نہیں ہوتا تو اس کے دین کی تباہی میں کیا شبہ باقی رہتا ہے۔
رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے دین کو گویا بکری کے ساتھ مشابہت دی ہے اور حرص کا مشابہ بھیڑیے کو قرار دیا ہے، لہٰذا مطلب یہ ہوا کہ اگر دو بھوکے بھیڑیوں کو بکریوں کے ریوڑ میں چھوڑ دیا جائے تو وہ بھی اس ریوڑ کو اس طرح تباہ و برباد نہیں کرتے جس طرح ایک انسان کی حرص، حبِ مال اور حبِ جاہ، یعنی عزت و مقام، اس کے دین کو اور اللہ تعالیٰ کے ساتھ اس کے تعلق کو اس سے زیادہ نقصان پہنچاتے ہیں۔
انسان کے دل کی خواہشات ہر میدان میں پھیلی ہوئی ہیں، اب اگر وہ ان خواہشات کے پیچھے پڑے گا، ان ہی کو اپنا قبلہ مقصود بنائے گا اور فکر کے گھوڑے ہر طرف دوڑاتا رہے گا تو اللہ تعالیٰ کی رحمتِ خاص سے دور ہوتا جائے گا، اللہ تعالیٰ کو اس کی کوئی پروا نہ ہوگی کہ وہ کہاں تباہ و برباد ہوتا ہے، لیکن اگر اس کے برعکس وہ اللہ تعالیٰ پر توکل کر کے راہِ راست پر چلنے کی کوشش کرتا ہے اور اس کی بندگی میں لگا رہتا ہے تو نہ صرف یہ کہ اللہ اس کے دین و ایمان اور اخلاق کی حفاظت فرمائے گا بلکہ اس کی ساری ضروریات کے معاملے میں بھی وہ اس کے لیے کافی ہو جائے گا، اللہ تعالیٰ اسے ایسا سکون و اطمینان عطا کرے گا جس سے بڑھ کر دنیا میں کوئی دولت نہیں ہے۔
ایک دن رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے خطبہ کے دوران ارشاد فرمایا کہ:
حرص و طمع سے بچو کیونکہ تم سے پہلے جو لوگ گزرے ہیں وہ حرص و طمع ہی کے سبب سے تباہ ہوئے، اسی نے انہیں بخل پر ابھارا تو انہوں نے بخل اختیار کیا، اسی نے انہیں قطع رحمی کے لیے آمادہ کیا تو وہ قطع رحمی کے مرتکب ہوئے، اسی نے انہیں فسق و فجور پر اکسایا تو وہ فسق و فجور میں مبتلا ہوئے۔ (بحوالہ ابو داؤد)
اس حدیثِ مبارکہ سے بھی اندازہ ہو سکتا ہے کہ حرص سے انسان کا دین کس طرح تباہ و برباد ہوتا ہے اور کس طرح یہ چیز خود اس کے لیے بھی موجبِ ہلاکت ثابت ہوتی ہے، حرص اور تنگ دلی کی وجہ سے ہی پچھلی قوموں نے بخل کو اپنا شعار بنایا اور پھر اس بخل نے انہیں ہر ظلم و ستم پر آمادہ کیا، انہوں نے اپنے عزیزوں اور رشتہ داروں تک کے حقوق پامال کیے اور اس کی وجہ سے ہر قسم کے فسق و فجور کا ارتکاب کیا اور بالآخر وہ اللہ تعالیٰ کے عذاب کے مستحق ہو کر رہے، اللہ تعالیٰ ہم سب کو حبِ مال و حبِ جاہ سے محفوظ و مامون فرمائے۔ آمین

English translation
It is narrated from Kaʿb ibn Mālik (RA) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Two hungry wolves let loose among sheep do not cause them as much ruin as a person's greed for wealth, honour and status ruins and lays waste his religion." (Tirmidhī and Dārimī)
What is religion? It is to adopt the commands of Allah in life and to live in such a way that one's whole life becomes subservient to the commands of God; that from one's conduct and deeds it is plainly evident that one is devoted to the honour and majesty of Allah and to His beauty and perfection, and that all one's loyalties have become reserved for Allah alone. Such a person's heartfelt desire is to humble himself utterly before Allah so that Allah's supremacy over him stands out; he longs to be so filled with love of Allah that this renders him indifferent to the love of perishable things. The truth is that whoever has truly come to know Allah — in his sight there is no other honour or greatness beside Allah, nor any object of charm or allure for which his heart could remain restless. This is the essence of religion. Now if someone hungers after worldly wealth and goods, worldly honour, rank and fame, then clearly he is wholly unacquainted with religion and its delights; and if he does not turn to his own reform, what doubt remains about the ruin of his religion?
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ likened religion, as it were, to sheep, and declared greed to be like a wolf. So the meaning is: just as two hungry wolves let loose in a flock of sheep do not ruin and destroy that flock as much as a person's greed, his love of wealth and love of status — that is, honour and position — damage his religion and his bond with Allah far more.
The desires of the human heart are spread across every field. If a person chases after these desires, makes them the object of his devotion, and keeps galloping the horse of his thought in every direction, he will keep drifting away from Allah's special mercy, and Allah will not care where he ends up ruined. But if, on the contrary, he trusts in Allah and strives to walk the straight path and remains engaged in His worship, then not only will Allah protect his religion, faith and morals, but He will also suffice him in all his needs, and grant him such peace and contentment that there is no greater wealth in the world.
One day the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said during a sermon: "Beware of greed and covetousness, for those before you were destroyed by greed and covetousness alone: it incited them to miserliness, so they became miserly; it prompted them to sever the ties of kinship, so they cut them; and it urged them to sin and immorality, so they fell into sin and immorality." (reported by Abū Dāwūd)
From this blessed hadith too one can gauge how greed ruins and lays waste a person's religion, and how this very thing proves a cause of his own destruction. It was through greed and narrow-heartedness that earlier nations made miserliness their way, and then this miserliness drove them to every injustice and cruelty: they trampled the rights of even their own kin and relatives, and because of it committed every kind of sin and immorality, until in the end they became deserving of Allah's punishment. May Allah keep us all protected and safe from love of wealth and love of status. Ameen.
