رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اللہ کے آخری نبی

Narrated from Abu Hazim, who said: I stayed with Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) for five years, and I heard him relate this hadith from the Prophet ﷺ, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The Children of Israel were led by the prophets. Whenever a prophet died, another prophet succeeded him. But there will be no prophet after me; instead there will be caliphs, and they will be many." The people asked, "(Concerning them) what do you command us?" He said, "Fulfil the pledge (bay'ah) of the first one, then give them their due; for Allah Himself will question them about the charge and responsibility He has entrusted to them."

This hadith is a clear proof that the Prophet ﷺ is the Seal of the Prophets (Khatam an-Nabiyyin). The chain of messengers and prophets that Allah began sending into the world to guide His creation — starting with the first man, Adam (peace be upon him) — came to an end with Muhammad the Arabian ﷺ. After him no prophet or messenger has come into this world, nor will any come in the future.

This saying of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is in reality an explanation of this verse of the Holy Qur'an:
"Muhammad ﷺ is not the father of any of your men, but he is the Messenger of Allah and the seal (last) of the prophets; and Allah has knowledge of all things." (Al-Ahzab – 40)

Prophethood is in reality an office to which Allah appoints a particular person for a particular need. When that need arises, a prophet is sent from Allah; when there is no such need, prophets are not sent. From study of the Holy Qur'an it appears that there are four situations in which prophets were sent: (1) When no prophet had come to a particular people, and the message of a prophet sent to some other people could not reach them, then a prophet is sent from Allah to guide that people. (2) When people had forgotten the teachings of a former prophet, or those teachings had been altered and changed so that it became difficult to distinguish truth from falsehood and correct following of that prophet was no longer possible. (3) When there was a need for one more prophet to help and assist a prophet. (4) When the teaching given through a former prophet was incomplete, and the sending of a further prophet was necessary to complete it.

After the coming of the Seal of the Prophets ﷺ, none of these needs remains. He ﷺ was sent for the guidance of the whole world. From his time onward, circumstances have continually arisen such that his message can be, and is being, conveyed throughout the world. After him there remains no need to send prophets to separate peoples. The Holy Qur'an bears witness to this, and the vast treasury of the Sirah and Hadith is open proof of it, that the teaching he brought is preserved, free of alteration and change, in its correct form; the book he brought exists word for word in the very form in which he ﷺ presented it; his sayings and his entire life have reached us in such a way that it feels as though he ﷺ is present among us. Through him Allah also completed the religion. Reformers have continually arisen in this ummah in accordance with his prophecy, and through them the work of renewing and reviving the religion has continued. All these matters furnish clear proof that he ﷺ is the last Prophet of Allah.
