مال و دولت کی فراوانی اور دین سے دوری

It is narrated from Muhammad ibn Ka'b al-Qurazi that a man related to him — one who had himself heard it from Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) — that: One day we were sitting with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) in the mosque when Mus'ab ibn Umayr (may Allah be pleased with him) came before us in such a state that on his body there was only a single worn-out cloak patched with pieces of leather. When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saw him in that condition, he wept — recalling the time when Mus'ab had lived a life of ease and comfort (in Makkah before accepting Islam) and reflecting on his present state of poverty and want. Then the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) turned to us and said: "Tell me, what will your condition and state be when (there will be such an abundance of the wealth and goods of the Quraysh that) one of you will go out in the morning wearing one set of clothes and in the evening wearing another, a dish will be set before him and another taken away, and you will drape your houses (with cloth) just as the Ka'bah is draped with its covering?" Some of those present replied: "O Messenger of Allah, our condition then will be far better than now, for we will have full leisure for the worship of Allah and will not have to endure toil and hardship (for our livelihood)." The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "No! You today (in this age of poverty and hunger) are far better than the people of ease and comfort of that day." (Tirmidhi)

Mus'ab ibn Umayr (may Allah be pleased with him) held a special standing and history among the Companions. He came from one of the wealthiest families of Makkah and was the pampered darling of his household; before Islam his life was one of luxury and ease. After he embraced Islam the whole direction of his life changed, and he came to the state described in this hadith — a single worn, patched cloak upon his body, patched here and there with pieces of leather. Seeing him in that condition, the image of his former life of luxury and ease came before the eyes of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and he wept. He then, to make the Companions aware of an important truth, told them: a time will come when you — that is, my Ummah — will have an abundance of the means of comfort; a man will go out in one garment in the morning and another in the evening, and likewise the table will be spread with all kinds of foods. Tell me, what do you think — how will that time be for you? Some said: "O Messenger of Allah, that time and that day will be excellent; we will have nothing but leisure and free time, and will simply spend it worshipping Allah." He (ﷺ) said: your thinking is not correct; the state you are in today is far better than the state of ease and comfort that is to come.

The truth is that when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) declared this reality, at that time it could only be believed as a matter of faith in the unseen. But in the earlier rule of the Umayyads and the Abbasids, in most of the later Muslim governments, and in the Muslim states of today to whom Allah has granted the means of comfort in the greatest abundance, this reality has been seen with the eyes and is being seen still: to what degree they follow the way of Allah and His Messenger (ﷺ), and what standard of worship they maintain. Without doubt, this and all such prophecies are among the miracles of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and the proofs of his prophethood.
