مسجدوں کی ظاہری شان وشوکت
حضرت عبداللہ ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: ”مجھے اللہ کی طرف سے مسجدوں کو بلند اور شان دار بنانے کا حکم نہیں دیا گیا ہے۔“ (یہ حدیث بیان فرمانے کے بعد) حدیث کے راوی عبداللہ بن عباس نے (بطور پیشین گوئی) فرمایا کہ یقیناً تم لوگ اپنی مسجدوں کی آرائش و زیبائش اسی طرح کرنے لگو گے جس طرح یہود و نصاریٰ نے اپنی عبادت گاہوں میں کی ہے۔ (ابو داؤد)
رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے اس ارشاد کا منشا اور اس کی روح یہ ہے کہ مسجدوں میں ظاہری شان و شوکت اور ٹیپ ٹاپ مطلوب اور مقصود نہیں ہے بلکہ ان کے لیے سادگی ہی مناسب اور پسندیدہ ہے، آگے حضرت عبداللہ ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کے مسجدوں کے متعلق امت کی لاپروائی کے بارے میں جو پیشین گوئی بظاہر وہ بات انہوں نے کسی موقع پر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ہی سے سنی ہوگی۔ جیسا کہ ایک اور روایت میں حضرت عبداللہ ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کا یہ ارشاد نقل فرمایا ہے: میں دیکھ رہا ہوں کہ تم لوگ بھی ایک وقت (جب میں تم میں نہ ہوں گا) اپنی مسجدوں کو اسی طرح شان دار بناؤ گے جس طرح یہود نے اپنے کنیسے بنائے ہیں اور نصاریٰ نے اپنے گرجے۔ (بحوالہ ابن ماجہ)
اور یہ بھی ممکن ہے کہ حضرت عبداللہ ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے (جو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے بعد تقریباً ساٹھ سال تک اس دنیا میں رہے) مسلمانوں کے مزاج اور طرزِ زندگی میں تبدیلی کا رخ اور اس کی رفتار دیکھ کر یہ پیشین گوئی ہو، بہر حال پیشین گوئی کی بنیاد جو بھی ہو وہ حرف بحرف پوری ہوئی، خود ہم اپنی آنکھوں سے اپنے اپنے علاقوں میں ایسی مسجدیں دیکھ سکتے ہیں جن کی آرائش و زیبائش کے مقابلے میں کوئی کنیسہ اور گرجا پیش نہیں کیا جا سکتا۔
مسجدوں کی تعمیر کروانا یا اس میں حصہ لینا جہاں ایک بہت بڑی سعادت کا کام ہے وہاں اس کے ساتھ ساتھ دین میں اخلاص کی شرط بھی ہے، کیونکہ ایک روایت میں اس طرح آتا ہے کہ: قیامت کی علامتوں میں سے ایک یہ بھی ہے کہ لوگ مساجد کے بارے میں فخر کریں گے۔ (بحوالہ ابو داؤد و نسائی)
قیامت کی نشانیوں میں سے بعض تو وہ ہیں جو اس کے بالکل قریب ظاہر ہوں گی جیسے دجال کا آنا اور سورج کا مغرب کی سمت سے طلوع ہونا وغیرہ، اور بعض وہ ہیں جو قیامت سے پہلے کسی نہ کسی وقت ظاہر ہوں گی، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے امت میں پیدا ہونے والی جن خرابیوں اور جن فتنوں کو قیامت کی نشانیوں میں سے بتایا ہے وہ اکثر اسی قسم کی ہیں۔
مطلب یہ ہے کہ قربِ قیامت میں لوگ بڑی بڑی مسجدیں بنائیں گے اور انہیں آراستہ کریں گے اور اس سے ان لوگوں کا مقصد اللہ تعالیٰ کی رضا و خوشنودی اور ان کی نیت خالصۃً اللہ کے لیے نہیں ہوگی بلکہ ان کا مقصد یہ ہوگا کہ وہ بڑے فخر کے ساتھ اپنے اس کارنامے کو دنیا کے سامنے پیش کریں اور دنیا والے ان کی تعریف و بڑائی میں زمین و آسمان کے قلابے ملا دیں، آج اکثر مسلمان اس مرض میں مبتلا ہو گئے ہیں، حتیٰ کہ وہ لوگ مسجد جیسے پاک اور مقدس گھر کی تعمیر کے سلسلے میں یہ تک نہیں سوچتے کہ اس کی تعمیر کا مقصد صرف خالق کی رضا ہونا چاہیے اور اس کا اجر بھی وہی عطا کرے گا، کچھ لوگ ایسے بھی ہیں جو کہ مسجد کی تعمیر میں حلال و حرام مال کا بھی فرق نہیں کرتے۔ اللہ تعالیٰ امتِ محمدیہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی اصلاح فرمائے۔ آمین

English translation
Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "I have not been commanded by Allah to build lofty and splendid mosques." (After relating this) its narrator Abdullah ibn Abbas said, by way of prediction: "Surely you people will decorate and adorn your mosques just as the Jews and Christians adorned their places of worship." (Abu Dawud)
The intent and spirit of this saying of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) is that outward pomp, splendour and show are not required or desired in mosques; rather, simplicity is what is fitting and preferred for them. As for Abdullah ibn Abbas's (may Allah be pleased with him) prediction about the Ummah's carelessness concerning mosques, apparently it is something he had heard from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) himself. As in another narration Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) related this saying of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): "I see that a time will come upon you people (when I will not be among you) when you will make your mosques splendid just as the Jews built their synagogues and the Christians their churches." (Reported by Ibn Majah.)
It is also possible that Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) — who lived in this world about sixty years after the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) — made this prediction by observing the direction and speed of change in the temperament and lifestyle of the Muslims. In any case, whatever the basis of the prediction, it came true word for word; with our own eyes we can see, in our own regions, mosques whose ornamentation and adornment no synagogue or church can match.
While having mosques built or taking part in it is a matter of very great blessing, along with it there is also the condition of sincerity in religion, because in one narration it comes: "Among the signs of the Hour is that people will boast about mosques." (Reported by Abu Dawud and Nasa'i.)
Some of the signs of the Hour are those that will appear right near it, such as the coming of the Dajjal and the rising of the sun from the west; and some are those that will appear at some time before it. The evils and tribulations arising in the Ummah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) described as signs of the Hour are mostly of this latter kind.
The meaning is that near the Hour people will build large mosques and adorn them, and their purpose in this will not be Allah's pleasure and approval, nor will their intention be purely for Allah; rather their aim will be to present this achievement of theirs before the world with great pride so that people praise and extol them to the skies. Today most Muslims have fallen into this malady, so much so that in building a sacred and pure house like a mosque they do not even consider that its construction should be solely for the pleasure of the Creator and that He alone will grant its reward. Some are even such that in building a mosque they make no distinction between lawful and unlawful wealth. May Allah the Exalted reform the Ummah of Muhammad (ﷺ). Amin.
