حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے شیطان کی خوفزدگی

Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: (One day) 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) stood at the door of the Prophet's chamber seeking permission to be admitted into the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). At that time some women of the Quraysh — namely the pure wives of the Prophet — were sitting and talking with him. The subject of their talk was a demand to increase the household allowance (which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to give them), and they were speaking loudly. When 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) began to enter after seeking permission, these women hastily rose from beside the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and went behind the curtain (to conceal themselves). When 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) entered, he saw that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was smiling. Seeing his smile, 'Umar said: "May Allah keep you ever smiling." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I was amused that these women who were sitting with me (raising their voices) rushed behind the curtain (out of fear) the moment they heard your voice." 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) then addressed the women and said: "O enemies of your own selves! You fear me so much that the moment you hear my voice you flee behind the curtain out of fright, yet you do not fear the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the least." The women replied: "Yes — for you are very harsh and severe in temperament, whereas the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is most cheerful and of the finest character." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said (addressing 'Umar): "O son of al-Khattab! Leave what they say. By the One in whose hand is my soul, whenever Satan sees you on a path, he abandons that path and takes another road than the one you are walking on." (Bukhari and Muslim)

The virtues of the Commander of the Faithful, 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), are countless. For his tremendous personality and standing, and his most exalted rank and station, it is enough that Allah Most High — through the supplication of His noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) — granted him the ability to embrace Islam, and through him bestowed upon His religion mighty glory and majesty. The glory and majesty of the religion of Islam were enhanced more than anything else through 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). This hadith mentions the awe and dread he commanded, from which — let alone the disbelievers — even Satan remained afraid, and Satan dreaded coming onto any path that 'Umar walked.
