English translation
It is narrated from Ali al-Murtada (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever possesses the provisions necessary for the journey of Hajj, and has a mount available that can convey him to the House of Allah, and then does not perform Hajj, it makes no difference whether he dies as a Jew or as a Christian." This is because Allah has said: "Pilgrimage to the House is a duty owed to Allah, upon those people who are able to make their way there."

Allah says in the Qur'an: "It is a duty owed to Allah by the people that whoever is able to find a way to His House should perform the pilgrimage to it; and whoever disbelieves (refuses to obey His command), then indeed Allah is free of all need of (rather, of) all the worlds" (Al-Imran 97). In this hadith, for the severe warning against those who do not perform Hajj despite being able to, the opening part of the above Qur'anic verse is cited; this verse is proof of the obligation of Hajj upon everyone who is able, and the one who does not perform Hajj despite being able the Qur'an has described as committing "kufr" (disbelief), so that no doubt remains about the obligatory nature and the emphasis of Hajj. In this hadith it is said of the person upon whom Hajj has become obligatory, yet who does not perform it and dies without doing Hajj, that for such people dying in this state and dying as a Jew or a Christian are equal. Allah protect us — how severe a warning this is! Those upon whom Hajj has become obligatory, and who out of laziness or worldly preoccupations do not go for Hajj while there is no genuine impediment stopping them that is valid in the Shariah — for such people there is fear of an evil end. Many people make the excuse of their children's marriage, or consider the building of a house necessary, and do not go for Hajj; and some make the pretext of business and trade — whereas these things are not valid excuses in the Shariah. Come, today let us all examine ourselves as to whether Hajj has become obligatory upon us in the reckoning of the Shariah; and if it has, then let us not now delay its performance, and let us discharge this obligation as soon as we possibly can. Who knows about death — no one knows at what moment it may stand over one's head, or some illness may befall one that leaves one unfit, so that it becomes an obstacle in the path of this important obligation, which has been made a foundation of Islam.
