منہ پر تعریف کرنے کی ممانعت
حضرت ابوبکر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے سامنے ایک صاحب نے ایک دوسرے صاحب کی تعریف کی (اور اس تعریف میں بے احتیاطی کی) تو آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم) نے ارشاد فرمایا: “تم نے اپنے اس بھائی کی (اس طرح تعریف کر کے) گردن کاٹ دی (یعنی ایسا کام کیا جس سے وہ ہلاک ہو جائے)” یہ بات آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم) نے تین بار ارشاد فرمائی، (اس کے بعد فرمایا) جو کوئی تم میں سے (کسی بھائی کی) تعریف کرنا ضروری ہی سمجھے اور اس کو تعریف و مدح کا مستحق سمجھے تو یوں کہے کہ میں فلاں بھائی کے بارے میں ایسا گمان کرتا ہوں (اور میری اس کے بارے میں یہ رائے ہے) اور اس کا حساب کرنے والا اللہ تعالیٰ ہی ہے (جس کو حقیقت کا پورا علم ہے) اور ایسا نہ کرے کہ خدا پر کسی کی پاکیزگی کا حکم لگائے (یعنی کسی کے حق میں ایسی بات نہ کہے کہ وہ بلاشبہ اور یقیناً اور عنداللہ پاک اور مقدس ہے، کیوں کہ یہ اللہ پر حکم لگانا ہے اور کسی بندے کو اس کا حق نہیں ہے)”۔ (بخاری و مسلم)
کسی کی تعریف کرنا دراصل اس کے حق میں شہادت اور گواہی دینا ہے جو بڑی ذمہ داری کی بات ہے اور اس سے اس کا خطرہ بھی ہے کہ اس آدمی کے دل میں خود پسندی اور بڑائی آ جائے، اس لیے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اس بارے میں سخت احتیاط کی تاکید فرمائی ہے، اس حدیث میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے یہ بھی فرمایا ہے کہ یقین کے ساتھ کسی کو یہ کہنا کہ وہ ایسا ایسا ہے اس میں پورے حالات سے واقف ہونے کا دعویٰ ہے اور جب اللہ پاک کی جانب سے اس کے بارے میں کوئی خبر نہیں دی گئی تو پختہ یقین کے ساتھ یہ کہنا گویا اللہ کے ذمہ یہ بات لگانا ہے کہ اللہ تعالیٰ کے نزدیک بھی یہ شخص ایسا ہی ہے جیسا میں بتا رہا ہوں۔
یہ تو بات ہے اگر تعریف سچی ہو اور اگر جھوٹی ہے تو جھوٹی تعریف کرنا تو گناہ عظیم ہے، اس کے ساتھ ایک اور اہم بات جو آج کل ہماری مسلمان قوم میں بہت زیادہ رچ بس گئی ہے وہ کافر و فاسق کی تعریف کرنا جس کی اسلام میں بالکل بھی گنجائش نہیں ہے، کافر و فاسق کی تعریف بہت بڑا اور بہت برا مرض ہے، جس کے متعلق رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ہے کہ “جب فاسق کی تعریف کی جاتی ہے تو پروردگار عالم غصہ ہوتے ہیں اور اللہ تعالیٰ کا عرش حرکت کرنے لگتا ہے”۔
عرش کا حرکت میں آنا اللہ تعالیٰ کی ہیبت و عظمت کی وجہ سے ہے، جس سے اللہ تعالیٰ ناراض ہوتا ہے اس لیے کافر و فاسق کی تعریف کرنا بہت ہی بڑا کام ہے، جس کے سامنے اللہ تعالیٰ کی عظمت نہیں ہوتی وہی ان لوگوں کی تعریف کرتا ہے جن سے اللہ ناراض ہوتا ہے، اللہ تعالیٰ ہم سب کو اس بات کو سمجھنے کی اور اس پر عمل کرنے کی توفیق عطا فرمائے (آمین)۔

عرش کا حرکت میں آنا اللہ تعالیٰ کی ہیبت و عظمت کی وجہ سے ہے، جس سے اللہ تعالیٰ ناراض ہوتا ہے اس لیے کافر و فاسق کی تعریف کرنا بہت ہی بڑا کام ہے، جس کے سامنے اللہ تعالیٰ کی عظمت نہیں ہوتی وہی ان لوگوں کی تعریف کرتا ہے جن سے اللہ ناراض ہوتا ہے، اللہ تعالیٰ ہم سب کو اس بات کو سمجھنے کی اور اس پر عمل کرنے کی توفیق عطا فرمائے (آمین)۔
English translation
It is narrated from Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man praised another man in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ (and was excessive in that praise). The Prophet ﷺ said: “You have cut the throat of your brother (by praising him in this way)” — meaning you have done something that will destroy him. He said this three times. Then he said: “If any of you feels he must praise a brother and considers him deserving of praise, let him say: I reckon so-and-so to be such (this is my opinion of him), and the One who will call him to account is Allah alone, who fully knows his reality; and let him not, before Allah, pronounce anyone pure — that is, let him not say of anyone that he is, without doubt and for certain and in Allah’s sight, pure and sanctified, because that is passing judgement upon Allah, and no servant has the right to do so.”
To praise someone is in reality to bear witness in their favour, which is a great responsibility, and there is also the danger that self-conceit and pride may enter that person’s heart; for this reason the Messenger of Allah ﷺ strongly enjoined caution in this matter. In this hadith the Messenger of Allah ﷺ also said that to declare of someone with certainty “he is such and such” is to claim knowledge of all his circumstances, and when Allah has sent no revelation about him, to say it with firm certainty is, as it were, to lay upon Allah the claim that this person is, even in Allah’s sight, exactly as one describes.
This is so if the praise is true; and if it is false, then false praise is a grave sin. Along with this, another serious matter that has become deeply rooted among our Muslim community today is the praising of a disbeliever or an open sinner, for which there is no room at all in Islam. Praising a disbeliever or a sinner is a very great and very evil disease, concerning which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “When a sinner is praised, the Lord of the worlds becomes angry and the Throne of Allah begins to shake.”
The shaking of the Throne is because of the awe and majesty of Allah, who is angered by such praise. So praising a disbeliever or a sinner is a very grave matter; only one before whom the greatness of Allah carries no weight praises those with whom Allah is displeased. May Allah grant us all the ability to understand this and to act upon it (Ameen).
