درود شریف

Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The one nearest to me on the Day of Resurrection, and having the greatest claim upon me, will be the member of my Ummah who sends the most blessings (durood) upon me."

The wealth of faith is the greatest treasure of this world and the Hereafter, and it reached us only through the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who bore the severest of hardships to bring us guidance and the light of religion. After Allah Himself, our greatest debt is to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and we can never repay his favour. The most we can do is to send abundant blessings and salutations upon him and so show our gratitude. In truth, to send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is our highest good fortune, and it will be a source of countless mercies and blessings for us in this world and the next. The remembrance of the noble Prophet ﷺ is the beauty of creation, a means of salvation, a means of intercession, and the best provision for the Hereafter. May Allah grant us the ability to remember him abundantly.

This blessed hadith is itself a great proof that abundant blessings and salutations will earn a special nearness and bond with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the Day of Resurrection. Allah has commanded us to do this in a most remarkable way in the Holy Qur'an, where He says (translation): "Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who believe, send blessings upon him and salute him with a worthy salutation." (al-Ahzab: 56)

We could never command another in such a manner, that Allah and His angels do this so you do it too, which shows how great its importance is in the sight of Allah. Truly this is a most lofty station, and it is among the special distinctions of the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ rank as the beloved of Allah. May Allah grant us all the ability to send abundant blessings upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Amin.
