تکبر
حضرت حارث بن وہب رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں کہ میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو سنا آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم فرماتے تھے: ”کیا میں تمہیں خبر دوں کہ اہل دوزخ کون ہیں؟ ہر سرکش، درشت خو، متکبر۔“ (بخاری، مسلم)
تکبر بڑائی کو کہتے ہیں۔ یعنی وہ وصف و کمال جس کے پائے جانے سے انسان اپنے کو بڑا سمجھ لے اور جس میں یہ کمال نہیں پایا جاتا اس کو حقیر و ذلیل سمجھے۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کا فرمان ہے: تکبر کرنے والا وہ ہے جو حق کو قبول نہ کرے بلکہ اس کو پس پشت ڈال دے اور لوگوں کو حقیر جانے (مسلم)۔
سب سے پہلا تکبر کرنے والا شیطان ہے جس نے حضرت آدم علیہ السلام کے مقابلے میں اپنے کو بالاتر سمجھا اور کہا کہ میں آدم سے بہتر ہوں۔ وہ مٹی سے بنے ہیں اور میں آگ سے بنا ہوں۔ اس کبر کا انجام یہ ہوا کہ وہ جنت سے نکال دیا گیا اور ہمیشہ کے لیے دوزخی ٹھہرا دیا گیا۔ قرآن و حدیث میں غرور و تکبر کی بڑی مذمت آئی ہے۔ اللہ تعالیٰ فرماتا ہے:
﴿زمین میں اکڑ کر نہ چلا کر، نہ تو زمین کو پھاڑ سکتا ہے اور نہ اونچائی میں پہاڑ کو پہنچ سکتا ہے، ان سب کاموں کی برائی تیرے رب کے نزدیک سخت ناپسند ہے۔﴾ (لقمان)
ایک اور جگہ ارشاد رب العزت ہے:
﴿اللہ تعالیٰ غرور کرنے والے گھمنڈی کو پسند نہیں فرماتا۔﴾ (القرآن)
مزید فرمایا:
﴿کیا جہنم مغرور کا ٹھکانہ نہیں ہے؟﴾ (القرآن)
انسان ایک حقیر پانی سے پیدا ہوا ہے جو پیشاب کی جگہ سے پیشاب کی جگہ میں داخل ہوا اور پھر پیشاب کی جگہ سے واپس آیا، اس کے لیے بڑائی اور تکبر لائق نہیں ہے۔ تکبر اور بڑائی اللہ کی شان ہے جو ہمیشہ ہے اور ہمیشہ رہے گا، جو ہر عیب سے عاری ہے۔
تکبر و غرور سے ہمیشہ نقصان ہوتا ہے۔ مغرور آدمی اپنے آپ کو دوسرے لوگوں سے بڑا سمجھتا ہے مگر حقیقت میں وہ خود بہت چھوٹا اور بے حقیقت ہوتا ہے۔ لوگ اس سے نفرت کرتے ہیں چاہے ظاہر میں اس کے مال یا عہدے کی وجہ سے اس کو سلام کرتے ہوں۔ متکبر کی مثال پہاڑ کی چوٹی پر کھڑے ہوئے شخص کی سی ہے جس کو ساری مخلوق چیونٹیوں کی مانند نظر آتی ہے لیکن وہ یہ بھول جاتا ہے کہ مخلوق کو بھی وہ چیونٹی ہی جتنا نظر آ رہا ہے۔ لوگ اس سے نفرت کرتے ہیں اور اس کے شر سے پناہ چاہتے ہیں۔ تکبر ایک ایسی تلوار ہے جو بالآخر متکبر کا ہی گلا کاٹ دیتی ہے۔
انسان عموماً اپنے حسب نسب، حسن و جمال، مال و دولت اور عہدے پر تکبر کرتا ہے لیکن ان میں سے ہر چیز ختم ہو جانے والی ہے۔ اگر اس دنیا میں نہیں تو مرنے کے ساتھ ہی یہ سب مٹی میں مل جاتا ہے اور صرف انسان کے اعمال ہی اس کے سامنے آ جاتے ہیں۔ ہم خود اپنے طرز فکر پر غور کریں تو یہی بات سامنے آئے گی کہ ہم بھی اس شخص کو پسند کرتے ہیں جس کے اخلاق اور اعمال صحیح ہوں۔ ایک اور حدیث شریف میں یوں آتا ہے کہ تین آدمی ایسے ہیں کہ قیامت کے دن ان سے اللہ بات نہ کرے گا اور نہ ان کی طرف دیکھے گا اور ان کے لیے دردناک عذاب ہے۔ ان تین میں سے ایک متکبر ہے۔
تواضع، انکساری ہر طرح سے فائدہ مند ہے۔ یہ اللہ رب العزت کو بھی بہت پسند ہے اور دنیا میں بھی اس کی وجہ سے انسان باعزت ہوتا ہے۔
اے ذوق کسی کو چشمِ حقارت سے نہ دیکھیے
سب ہم سے زیادہ ہیں کوئی ہم سے کم نہیں

تواضع، انکساری ہر طرح سے فائدہ مند ہے۔ یہ اللہ رب العزت کو بھی بہت پسند ہے اور دنیا میں بھی اس کی وجہ سے انسان باعزت ہوتا ہے۔
اے ذوق کسی کو چشمِ حقارت سے نہ دیکھیے
سب ہم سے زیادہ ہیں کوئی ہم سے کم نہیں
English translation
Al-Harith bin Wahb (may Allah be pleased with him) related: I heard the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم saying: “Shall I not inform you who the people of Hell are? Every rebellious, harsh-natured, arrogant person.” (Bukhari, Muslim)
Takabbur means self-greatness: that is, a quality or excellence whose presence makes a person regard himself as great and regard as lowly and contemptible anyone in whom that excellence is not found. The Noble Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: the arrogant one is he who does not accept the truth but casts it behind his back, and who holds people in contempt. (Muslim)
The very first one to be arrogant was Satan, who considered himself superior to Adam (peace be upon him) and said: I am better than Adam; he is made of clay and I am made of fire. The outcome of that pride was that he was expelled from Paradise and declared a dweller of Hell forever. In the Qur’an and hadith there is severe condemnation of pride and arrogance. Allah Most High says:
“Do not walk upon the earth in arrogance; you can neither split the earth open nor reach the mountains in height. The evil of all these deeds is greatly hateful in the sight of your Lord.” (Luqman)
In another place the Lord of Might says:
“Allah Most High does not love the proud and boastful.” (The Qur’an)
And further:
“Is Hell not the abode of the arrogant?” (The Qur’an)
Man has been created from a lowly fluid; greatness and pride do not befit him. Pride and greatness are the glory of Allah, who is eternal and will remain forever, and who is free of every defect.
Pride and arrogance always bring loss. The proud man considers himself greater than other people, but in reality he himself is very small and of no substance. People hate him, even if outwardly they greet him on account of his wealth or his rank. The example of the arrogant man is like that of a person standing on a mountain peak, to whom all creation appears like ants — but he forgets that to the creation he too appears just as small as an ant. People hate him and seek refuge from his mischief. Arrogance is a sword that in the end cuts the throat of the arrogant one himself.
A person is generally proud of his lineage, his beauty, his wealth and his office — but every one of these things is bound to come to an end. If not in this world, then with death it all mingles with the dust, and only a person’s deeds come before him. If we reflect on our own way of thinking, this very point will come before us: that we too like the person whose character and deeds are sound. In another noble hadith it comes thus: there are three men to whom Allah will not speak on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He look towards them, and for them is a painful punishment; one of these three is the arrogant one.
Humility and modesty are beneficial in every way. They are greatly loved by Allah, the Lord of Might, and in this world too a person is honoured on account of them.
O Zauq, do not look upon anyone with an eye of contempt —
all are more than us; no one is less than us.
