English translation
Narrated by Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There are two blessings regarding which many people (because of misusing them) will remain in loss and deprivation: health and free time."

This blessed hadith tells us that we should appreciate the value of health and time before they are lost. These two are in reality such precious blessings that only those from whom they have been taken away can truly appreciate them. Among the precious blessings Allah has granted to man, health and time rank foremost. To a degree they resemble a person's very life: just as life is given only once and, once it departs the body, never returns, so too is the nature of time — "today" comes only once in life and, once it passes, never comes again. Likewise health is a precious asset for man; if a person lacks health and soundness of body and is deprived of it, he certainly cannot accomplish any task well and in a good manner. Islam is the first religion and the first code of life to have made health and cleanliness inseparable; the Qur'an and Hadith have given such comprehensive guidance concerning human health as no other law or religion has given. The one who uses these two blessings with care remains in profit, and conversely the one who squanders them — that is, misuses them — will be in loss in the Hereafter. Today the majority of people do not properly value these two blessings; thus they spend their time in useless and futile pursuits and expend their bodily strength and energy in disobedience to Allah, and by the measure of this hadith that is an utterly losing bargain. May Allah grant us all the ability to value these two blessings correctly and to use them rightly (Ameen).
