English translation
It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever intends to perform Hajj, let him hasten to complete it.”

The meaning of this hadith is that whoever is able to perform Hajj and intends to do so should hasten, and should treat the opportunity he has been given to fulfil this obligation as a prize, for if he delays there is no telling what kind of, and how many, obstacles may arise, leaving a person deprived of this great blessing. A good deed should not be delayed without reason; no one knows when the span of one's life will end, and even if life remains, who knows whether future circumstances will permit the journey of Hajj or not.

This blessed hadith also gives us a fine sense of the worth and value of time. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) once advised: “Take advantage of five things before five others: your youth before your old age, your health before your sickness, your wealth before your poverty, your free time before your becoming busy, and your life before your death.” (Tirmidhi) Here he (peace be upon him) explained the worth, value, importance and delicacy of time in a most touching manner. Time is a very great blessing, and understanding its importance is essential. Allah has created man in this world for a very short time, and every person comes with a brief life; the more of this life one spends in the worship and obedience of Allah, the better. To squander the precious wealth of one's time in idle, vain and futile pursuits is a matter of great misfortune. In another hadith the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “There are two blessings which many people are deceived about: health and free time.” (Bukhari) The truth is that health and free time are both great blessings, yet often they are suddenly snatched away. Thus the real meaning of the hadith under discussion becomes clear to us in the light of the above. So one should never delay or procrastinate in performing Hajj; whenever Allah grants enough that you can fulfil this pleasant obligation, set out at the first opportunity, for there is no certainty of life that you should keep postponing this duty from one year to the next. Who knows whether these means, capacity and ease will remain or not, and then—God forbid—a person may remain deprived of the blessing of Hajj to the House of Allah. May Allah protect every believing servant from such deprivation. In another hadith the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever intends to perform Hajj should hasten to do it, for it may be that he falls ill, that his mount is lost, or that some other need arises that makes Hajj impossible.” (Ibn Majah)

Take whatever time you find as a prize and move on;
what trust is there in the breath—only so long as it flows.
