نفع و نقصان

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): One day I was riding behind the Prophet ﷺ when he said to me: "O boy! I wish to teach you some words. Be mindful of Allah, and Allah will protect you. Be mindful of Allah, and you will find Him before you. When you ask, ask only of Allah; and when you seek help, seek it only from Allah. And know that if the whole of creation were to gather to benefit you in some way, they could benefit you only with what Allah has already written for you; and if they were to gather to harm you in some way, they could harm you only with what Allah has already written against you. The pens have been lifted and the pages have dried."

Allah is One — this is the belief that is the foundation of Islam. But the Islamic doctrine of Oneness is not merely that Allah is one in His essence; rather, just as in His essence, He is also unique and alone in His names and attributes. The blessed names and attributes that belong to Allah are never found in any other. He knows all that is hidden and all that is manifest; He hears and sees all things; the treasures of the heavens and the earth are His. To whom He wills He gives sustenance in abundance, and whom He wills He straitens in provision. To whom He wills He grants children, and whom He wills He leaves childless. He alone has all power; He alone is the Master of life and death. Therefore the very demand of servitude is that a servant turn for all his needs to Allah alone, and this must be his perfect faith: that Allah alone can bring benefit or harm.
